  1. Those are great — the top one especially. It’s funny, when I was in D.C. this weekend and was walking in front of the white house, I couldn’t really think of anything besides Nixon — I think it’s because my main association with images of the white house, growing up, was Doonesbury cartoons of the Nixon administration. (Actually a little before my time, I was reading them in collections.)

Here’s a fun fact about Nixon:

Following the 1967 Loving v. VA case, which declared that the laws still on the books in 16 states (!) prohibiting interracial marriage were unconstitutional, gay/lesbian groups in America began to argue for their fundamental right to marry. Nixon proclaimed in 1970 that while he could understand allowing intermarriage of black and white Americans, on the topic of same-sex marriage…

“I can’t go that far. That’s for the year 2000.”

Predictably, I love love love these. The profile of Dick and Pat is great, but I really love the last one: “Nixon: He’s thoughtful … and a man of action.”

  4. The first one is begging me to use it as a Facebook avatar. I have resisted so far but I’m not making any guarantees.

I’ve never heard anyone talk about how beautiful Richard’s hair is. It’s really quite lovely, especially in photo one.

Swells and I saw an entire Rockwell retrospective in San Diego a few years back. Neither of us were super interested in going, but we went any way, and were both kind of blown away. Viewing precise painting after precise painting sort of wears you out. Score one for Norm.
