Sleeping with the city

I just moved into a fourth floor condo in D.C.  The bedroom has a fabulous window on to a cityscape.

The window is huge—it’s about 6 feet by 5 feet.

I have no shades or blinds, so every night I go to sleep with the city.

I’ve always lived in small places with views on to modest spaces…the little garden, the alley, the cute historic street. But here, I sleep and wake with the city and the sky at my side.

It’s changing my psyche.  Cosy and introspective have been replaced by expansive and external.

I can’t wait for a thunderstorm.

What a great new place. Hope you’re enjoying it.

I loved your last few sentences that describe how exterior spaces can influence internal frames of mind.

I wonder if your new state of mind also has to do with your recent travels. Whenever I get back from big trips, a new view of the world stays with me like sand from a day at the beach.

Are you going to put up blinds or keep the non-stop view?

If I diverted the money from my therapist to renting an apartment with big windows, would I come out ahead?

This is a great line. Hopefully the new view of the world is not as annoying as the sand.

That is a lovely view, Stella. Thanks for the pictures, I really like this type of photography — pictures of the same landscape at different times of day. Here are some similar photos I took on a trip to Italy — the first four photos in that set.
