Isn’t this always the way? After events like Friday’s, we go through these brief spasms of contemplating serious gun control laws, but within a few weeks the storm of outrage passes and everything stays just as it was. I do sense a more serious outcry now, mostly because so many of the victims were children. But will we just be back to business as usual by the new year?
I’m not sure what it will take to turn the tide of gun control. I’m not sure how much more horrific it can get than someone shooting up an elementary school with automatic weapons. But with the holidays on the way and people’s memories so short, I fear this will be one more time when our collective consciousness turns away from what needs to be done. And then, next time, we’ll once again say, “isn’t this enough??”
I just despise these supposedly “conservative” notions that keep loving couples apart and ensure that anyone can get automatic weapons.
If there’s anything that I know, it’s that ours is not a “Christian” government, in any sense of the word.

To underscore LP’s point: A very “oof” clip of presidential speeches following school shootings.
I’d also meant to link to this earlier: a compendium, from earlier this year (post-Aurora), of good recent writing about US gun laws/gun culture.
