Welcome everyone to The Great Whatsit Thursday Playlist. Here’s a few songs that I’ve stumbled upon over the past few weeks that really stand out to me. Some of it is new music courtesy of WFMU — Pas Chic Chic, Begushkin, Crayon Fields, Big Blood. Maher Shalal Hash Baz and Smokey Robinson came from fellow Whatsiteers (thanks Dave and Bryan). I’ve also been listening to a lot of public radio (on this toaster radio) where I found the great tracks by Horace Andy and Buck and Bubbles. So now it’s on you to search and listen!
So yeah. The idea is, every Thursday we have a playlist of songs and a commentary. Those are the rules; the content is otherwise up to you. I have a signup sheet right here (you can’t see it, but, you know…) and welcome any and all to email me to get a slot.
i haven’t had the chance to find and download these yet — so break the suspense for me on one thing: is the “vitamin c” a cover of the Can song?
i can’t wait to dig these up. maybe we should sponsor a limited-time podcast with the playlists?
yeah, it’s a can cover. big blood is my favorite right now. another one of their songs called adversaries and enemies is great too. most of these are available online — through myspace or other blogs.
