Horray for class consciousness and the way it can potentially bring us all together!

Thanks LP! I look forward to a good class discussion today…

  6. F. P. Smearcase says:

Oh shit. “С восьмым марта!” -ым. I am losing my Russian.

  7. Dave says:

Smearcase I am so glad you corrected that adjectival ending.

  8. LP says:

On behalf of the women of the world, I forgive you for your incorrect (Smear)case ending.

  9. Dave says:

I guess since it’s a masculine ending it doesn’t matter today.

  10. swells says:

Obviously, since his original ending was “MOM,” which would clearly be the feminine.

  11. lane says:

    %17!

    that is funny!

  12. lane says:

    “Babbitry”

    ?

  13. lane says:

let’s all go to i-tunes and buy that john lennon song … !

  14. LP says:

10: Actually, Swells, that’s a rarely seen Old Church Slavonic derivation, typically used just once a year, on Mother’s Day. The correct form for today, which Smearcase hasn’t yet hit on, is “С Восьwomen Марта.”

Maybe “hit on” was the wrong phrase to use.

  15. LP says:

12: From Sinclair Lewis’s Babbitt. The Soviets loved him for his anti-capitalist bent, his readiness to embrace the USSR, and maybe his alcoholism. I’m going to try to use “Babbittry” at least three times in the next week.

  16. LP says:

Of course, the poster doesn’t actually say “Babbittry” in Russian. But I like my explanation anyway.

  17. LP says:

Posting multiple comments in a row is fun. Who knew? Besides Lane, of course!

    14 С Восьwymyn Марта, please.

You laugh, but I actually took Old Church Slavonic.
