My favorite mural ever

And then a little delicious detail:

And the overview…

So…I took these on the fly when they were setting up the room for the next day’s event…but next time you’re in D.C., swing by the Phoenix Park Hotel on Capitol Hill and check out the Federal City Room…where you can see this glorious mural handpainted by local artist Peter Sawyer (according to the hotel website.)

holy crap! that’s amazing! it’s great and painful too. those chairs and tables demean his efforts. it looks like that was really demanding. you’re so nice to post your enthusiasm. thanks stella!

ok ok, “demean” is too harsh, looks like a nice hotel. hope they paid him well!

Love this – the greens in those trees and the slightly wonky angles are very inviting. This reminds me a bit of one of my favorite books growing up – M. Sasek’s This is San Francisco, which we flipped through many times as kids and which my mother has used for years as a giant coaster when she sits in her easy chair.

LP – that’s it…it is like a children’s book view of the federal city…unsullied by reality.
