“I’m ooonly helping…”

RB and I have become obsessed with this recent Snickers commercial. For the last week or so, every question in our house is answered with either “Helloooo, Mrs. Jensen!”¬†or “I’m ooonly helping…”.

There’s apparently some controversy surrounding the ad, as people are creeped out at the old lady. Is it two kids inside that coat? Or an adult with a kid? Is there some strange subtext to this ad? Is this “woman” too creepy for primetime TV?

To which I respond: Feh. This ad is brilliant. Not only do I now want to eat Snickers all day on Halloween, I want to be that creepy lady. I’ll be looking for a mask and giant fur coat this week for my costume.

Anyone else out there dressing up for Halloween? Last year I was the Queen of Poker, with crazy-hair wig, cowboy hat, sunglasses and aces sticking out of my sleeves. Not too inspired, I admit. It’s been a while since I went all out with a Halloween costume. How about you?

  1. I don’t get such a kick out of dressing up, primarily because I’m not very good at it. (Actually, not sure which way the causality flows there. But anyway.) Sylvia is putting together a Sherlock Hound costume which will be extremely cute.

    THAT is supremely creepy.

  3. Rachel Berkowitz says:

That mask is awfully Wildenstein-y. I may never eat Snickers again.

Oh, this is awesome: I just got an email from the PR firm working with Mars Inc. responding to this post. They’re auctioning off the original giant fur coat and mask from the commercial, with proceeds going to charity. Click here to bid!

    Hellloooooo, Mrs. Jensen!!

Ugh, my husband and I were just talking about how creepy this ad is. I agree with Rachel, both about the Wildenstein resemblance and the fact that I don’t think I want to eat Snickers anymore.

Wow, I did not know about that Wildenstein person, and I really wish I didn’t know. I’m not sure I’ll be able to sleep.

Love the ad, though. I’m totally buying Snickers for Halloween. (Actually, probably buying whatever’s on sale. And Snickers for me.)
