Not sure why, but this fills me with delight: famous Cher impersonator Chad Michaels performs for an audience in West Hollywood that includes… Cher.

RIP Maxwell’s
Tonight is the last night for legendary Hoboken music venue Maxwell’s. To celebrate and mourn, Doom & Gloom from the Tomb has put together a selection of Yo La Tengo recordings (mostly covers) from their 27 years of shows at the club.
RIP Walter De Maria
Sad news. Let’s not forget the time he tried to start a band with La Monte Young and Andy Warhol.

Orange is the New Black (2013- ) Series in the age of Netflix are designed for binge watching, and Orange, about a Smith grad who goes to federal prison, is a prime example. I was living on the embassy compound at the time, but had forgotten completely about this particular notice. Here is the full text: To: All […]

The Last Days of Emma Blank (2009), dir. Alex Van Warmerdam (available on Netflix Instant) Do NOT watch the trailer or read a review — all chock-full of spoilers — before seeing this movie. The pleasure is in the plot surprises revealed casually. I will tell you that it’s set in the Dutch countryside near […]
Lonnie Holley
On Friday I had the great good fortune to see Lonnie Holley perform. I had no idea what I was in for. I was so astounded by what I heard that I recorded one of his songs on my phone, shared here (I made up the title, based on one of the lyrics). He has […]
