Hypocrisy at CBS

A lot of people feel that CBS shouldn’t have agreed to run an anti-abortion ad starring Tim Tebow during the Super Bowl. While I don’t necessarily agree with the ad’s message, and don’t love the evangelical zeal Tebow regularly displays, I didn’t see a problem with CBS running it.

But now, CBS has refused to run an ad from a gay men’s dating website during the game, saying it’s “not within the Network’s Broadcast Standards.” Really? See for yourself – is the clip below any racier than about 2.7 million lite beer ads that run during every televised sporting event in this country?

    Best. Superbowl. Ad. Ever.
CBS is so gay for not showing that!
    Sheesh.

I wonder if CBS would run this ad during the Super Bowl. If it weren’t for the happy ending, I think they’d consider it.

While I’m just as bemused by the hypocrisy of CBS policy on this matter, you have to wonder (or I have to wonder) if it may have been a calculated and highly clever strategy on the part of ManCrunch to gain free press/publicity without having to do anything more than propose to pay for the ad. If we look at it this way, perhaps we can at least see that the marginalized can at least find small ways in which to exploit our homophobic culture. Yes?

yeah, i think KS is right. they never intended to have it be accepted. and besides CBS made the right decision, no one wants to see that number 60 guy make out anyway . . .

  5. lane says:

the lite beer ads have hot people making out . . . seriously, look at that #60 guy, just sitting there with his bald head.

Anyone else think it’s odd to promote a gay dating site with a final five seconds of extraneous homophobia?
