I didn’t know about the Mamas and the Papas until some time after I knew that line, and I had no idea what it meant. My parents named our (pudgy) cat Mama Cat, and my mom would say “Everyone’s gettin fat except Mama Cat” and I wouldn’t have a clue. When I was 13 or 14 in the course of a visit to Marriot’s Great America (I think? Or possibly Six Flags Magic Mountain?) I watched a stage show about rock history that included (actors made up to look like) the M’s and the P’s singing “I Dig Rock and Roll Music” and I wanted to find out more about them, when I got home I looked through my parents’ records from college and found “The Mamas and the Papas Deliver” and spun it up, and the scales fell from my eyes…
Am I right in thinking there is no connection between the pizza chain called Papa John’s, and Papa John Phillips?
Dave, those sheet music covers are really beautiful. I have a small collection myself that I’ve been meaning to frame, but the ones on that flickr page are exceptional. Thanks for reminding me :)
