And now, a word from Mother Nature
Posted on Tuesday, June 27, 2006, under Geography and Out & About

It seems another weather apocalypse has struck the East Coast. Rain is pounding out of the sky, rivers are engorged, streams gush down city streets with gaudy abandon. Damn, it’s wet.

I was lucky enough to miss last week’s onslaught, having left the muggy, mosquito-y environs of Our Nation’s Sauna for a quick trip out West. So while New York and Washington were floating away on a torrent of brackish rainwater, I was hiking along dry, dusty trails through scorching canyons. It was painfully hot and dry, turning my lips to parchment and my contact lenses into something feeling like Saran wrap.

Now that I’m back East, the downpour continues. It’s apocalyptic! Thunder cracks wildly! Trees bend and groan in the wind! And the rain seems like it will never stop.

So, for those suffering the soggy slings and arrows of the Great East Coast Rainstorm of Aught-Six, pour yourself a drrrryyyy martini and enjoy these photos of our hot, dusty Western environs.

Those are awesome photos of the canyons in page. And as for the rain, try and send it over here to the west. We’re in one of the worst/longest droughts that TX has had in years. Our lawn feels more like dried straw than grass.
