hey there we go, no explanation needed. (i teach on mondays so i can't check in until the end of the day.)

yeah it's from milk, i thought the casting of jeff koons was an amazing choice by gus van sant. i'm sure he offered it to koons because the character's name is art.

as i read the movie, agnos gives milk the most important advice of his career "make 'em happy!" use the "art" of theater to promote your cause.

that same idea "make 'em happy!" is what koons stands for in his work. one can talk about koon's work a lot of different ways, and it has a lot of entry points in regards to things like taste and difference and democracy and acceptance.

i think van sant understands all of that and made this brilliant casting choice to enrich his film.

I saw it yesterday, when I woke up. I couldn't figure out, who was in the picture, what it was about, and why it was Monday already. I thought, I completely lost it there for a second :)

He was the mayor of SF when I moved there in '91. He seemed benign enough.

I wonder if Koons wanted the part because the character's name is Art.

I like how his line is written as a poem here.

It's from the movie Milk, btw. Jeff Koons played an assemblyman named Art Agnos.
