Thursday playlist: We go BOOM

So Nathan and I were practicing the other day (practicing what? Read on!) and he started telling me about a new show he’d heard on WFMU, The Acousmatic Theater Hour, and a performance poet they’d played, Caorline Bergvall. She’s French-Norwegian and really fantastic, as you’ll hear in the piece we’ve included in this playlist. It’s the first stanza of Dante’s Inferno in every English translation found in the British Library, read alphabetically.

To follow that up, I put on a track by Maja Ratkje, a prolific Norwegian-Norwegian composer and performer. This piece is from an album called Voice, and yep, it’s all her voice.

Download the playlist here.

So practicing what? Practicing music, getting ready for THE BIG SHOW. That’s right, the monome thing is getting somewhere. Nathan and I are performing as Born out of Moonshine, joined by a vocalist on a number or two, at Williamsburg’s Monkey Town on Saturday, November 15 at 7:30. It will be a great show — as far as I can tell, having two simultaneous monome players is unprecedented, and you’ve really never heard anything quite like it. (MySpace, Virb.)

So consider this your invitation. Monkey Town is a small space, so reservations are recommended. The show is free with a $10 drink minimum; they also serve very good food, so plan to eat if you want. But seriously, please come out if you can.

P.S. Here’s a bonus track about the election from a friend of the blog. DIY forever!

  9. WFMU OVERLORD says:

You probably meant Liz, too, given Liz’s devotion to antiquated Atari sounds and such. But I agree, this isn’t Fabio’s bag. Too lively.
