Monday photo: From the top of Jebel Hafeet

photo-11

We made a quick trip over the weekend to Al Ain, an oasis town on the UAE/Oman border. We stayed at a hotel perched atop Jebel Hafeet, the highest mountain in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The view was pretty spectacular, as was the drive to the top — though we didn’t scale it quite as quickly as this guy. The night view of Al Ain’s lights from our rooms was especially nice, but I liked a more local detail: some stalled construction, cements shells, on the hotel site that had been outfitted with fluorescent lighting. The effect was something like a Judd/Flavin mashup.
