From the cutting room floor: I was really determined to use this remix of Tame Impala’s “Elephant,” which would have made this a double elephant mix, but it didn’t make it to the final round. I like this one quite a bit more than the album cut:
And for good measure, a third elephant, which wasn’t under consideration for the mix but may just make your day:

Also, for the download link, it is possible you’ll have to add “.mp3” to the file name in order for it to work.
I think I can squeeze a fourth elephant into this post.
Thanks for the mix! Ask Mr. Godfree to tell you his Sky Saxon story the next time you see him.
Your mix is really lovely, brothers. But then, I felt like suddenly a song arrived that really stood out, that I might just grab for my own mix someday. “This is cool. Now, who is this? oh, yes, right, that’s the sea and cake right? cool. is this something old or new? Oh, it’s new, well, cool, congratulations boys, really well done. I wouldn’tv’e guessed it, but it’s rad. This sounds really likable and excellent. Something old fans are gonna show up for.” Then I read this comment from Brooklyn Vegan site(where you can download the mp3 which you really should cause it’s a pretty awesome song). But the first BrooklynVegan comment says this:
“Honey, can you call the babysitter? And can you find our old weed dealer’s number?”
Brilliant! This gives such perfect context to a song like this. I could totally be that mom. It’s a fucking cool song to get high to for sure. Especially if a decade ago, the sea and cake shows were events where you always got high. This shit happens all the time. I wish someone wrote about it more often. The weirdness of old weed-associated bands doing victory-lap tours with new material. They still need the weed effects for the diehards who show up. How is YLT gonna deal with this issue? Cause it’s an issue. Having babys changes everything about going to shows. Weed vendors would be great.
4: Note the 12-minute instrumental on the newish YLT single.
4: Also, not sure I’d call the new Sea and Cake a victory lap. They’ve released pretty steadily all along and don’t show signs of slowing, though perhaps their audience is aging along with them, sure. Ahem, JZ.
