A tape full of hiss and a sleeping bag on the floor

It has come to my attention that a number of my lovelies are going to be traveling for much of the summer. I will miss you all terribly and want to go with you wherever you go. And so, I’ve made a little summer mix, something by which to remember me while you enjoy your travels. (Of course, even if you’re not traveling you can savor this mix while sipping your favorite cocktail up on your roof or out in your yard. I encourage you to do so.)

The initial criteria? The songs had to be on my computer and have the word “summer” in the title. From there, I whittled it down to something manageable. So here are 10 songs of “summer” music.

Safe travels and happy summer, all y’all! Exes and Ohs!

1. “Sketch for Summer” – The Durutti Column
2. “This Summer” – Superchunk
3. “Summer Light” – The Cave Singers
4. “Summerdays” – Weekend
5. “Long Hot Summer Days” – Sara Watkins
6. “Summertime” – Gabor Szabo
7. “Two Weeks Last Summer” – Fotheringay
8. “You Must Believe in Summer” – Learning Music
9. “Love in a Summer Basket” – The Seeds
10. “Summertime Cowboy” – Husky Rescue

Looking forward to this. #10 has been my ringtone for a few years and I’m not sure I’ve heard the whole song in quite a while! And putting Fotheringay on a mixtape is just bold. Thanks in advance for the pleasure this is sure to bring.

Josh! Awesome playlist. I almost put that Hold Steady song on mine, but it didn’t quite fit. Also, I love the Elvis and Beat Happening songs. Neither is on my computer, though, so they didn’t make the cut.
