This was basically my favorite for a little while:
[Looks like I can’t embed it, so you’ll have to click through.]
I got a cassette recorder for Christmas and tried taping the theme song by holding the microphone up to the TV. (Now that I think about it, there’s a tiny chance I have that tape somewhere. William Basinski eat your heart out.) And for some reason I thought of it as a trumpety song, so I took up the trumpet in fourth grade. (Didn’t stick with it or even learn enough to play this theme song.)
Luckily, the good Lord has created YouTube so we can hear these sweet sounds without digging up old cassettes. And according to the Times, TNT is bringing back “Dallas” with J.R., Bobby, and Sue Ellen.
Imagining you doing all of this is bringing me a great deal of pleasure. Very cute.
Wow, I forgot about Charlene Tilton! This was a Friday night ritual in our house.
My grandmother went on a date with Bing Crosby once. My mom liked to say that if they had gotten married, she would have been the answer to “Who Shot J.R.?”. A little complex equation that only Dallas fans will understand . . .
Swells, your gran went on a date with Bing? That’s rad!
And no, I don’t get the equation. I’m probably the only person in the world that never watched Dallas. I know, lame.
I thought *I* was the only person on the planet who never watched “Dallas”! Maybe it’s a sign or something. The theme song about which I obsessed at a similar time in my youth was Bob James’s “Angela,” from “Taxi.” There’s something about that Fender Rhodes.
