Sometimes I go to this website and look at the pictures and daydream about what I would build, and where, and how I would eke out a nearly cash-free existence.
When I’m feeling just a little more practical, I browse this site and think about getting a cheap piece of land somewhere and setting up a temporary summer place. Wouldn’t that be great?
A friend invited me to Burning Man this summer, but then there was the ticket fiasco, and anyway it’s a different kind of thing.
BONUS for Parrish:

I used to stare at the Doctors Without Borders map on my wall on certain days and then google the remotest looking island I could find (Tristan da Cunha is a good one) and now on those certain days, of which today is one, I may look at cabins instead. Except they’re all in such snowy locales…
Mine is always Seychelles.
Ah, Dave, thank you for that personalized shout-out to my Rapture-fearing days. Isn’t that a lovely, tinkly little song to have such a portentous theme? “A piece of bread would buy a bag of gold” indeed.
Reminds me of this Simon and Garfunkel song, which I used to like to play on my guitar and sing, until I tired of the looks of horror from others when they realized what it was about. Twin childhood fears: the Rapture and nuclear holocaust. Now I’m just scared of Rick Santorum.
Um, do you mind if I join you in that cabin?
That cabin porn site is great! I happened upon it recently myself, but then haven’t looked at it since – thanks for the reminder. Also, I could only tell that the Larry Norman video was a tribute to a dead guy, but who knew that he was such a big influence on the rock world? Both creepy and interesting.
