Monday photo: audio edition

Imagine a tree filled with starlings, finches, mocking birds, and a couple of morning doves — this was the crazy scene going on behind our house this morning, so I grabbed my phone and made a recording. If you haven’t heard your local birds singing in a while, put on some headphones, and enjoy the link.

My cats were very confused by that, but it gave me some serious spring fever.

Just listened and now have a big goofy grin on my face. Surprising how happy-making that sound is!

I’ve listened to it twice already – I may just have to loop it all day.

So lovely. I think there is something deep in the human brain that thrives on this sound, perhaps because the birds’ singing signals that there are no predators nearby. Also, it’s pretty.

    That’s an awesome recording.

I heard a bird outside my window yesterday and it was a bit disconcertingly springlike. We’ve had almost no snow this winter, and while I prefer that state to last winter’s constant snow and suffering, it is freaking me out. In late January I noticed buds on several trees in downtown Boston.
