Thursday Playlist

Good morning!

Is It Possible To Get Your Ex Girlfriend Back After A Year

Here are three of my latest enthusiams:

1.) This essay, “You blow my mind. Hey Mickey!” from the NYT magazine two weeks ago. It's written by a former stoner Dad taking his kids to Disneyworld for the first time. He's really smart. In a conversation I had about the essay with another TGW writer, he said “it's the best thing I've read in the New York Times in years. I'm going to email the writer and tell him how much I liked it.” And that was spoken by someone without children who has never been to Disneyworld.

2.) This summer mixtape of new 2011 indie and electronic music. A music blogger from Switzerland. He has good taste. Check it out. You can stream the songs and/or download them from Mediafire. The mix kind of nails the 2011 sound. Some lazy lo-fi, choral sounds, surf sounds, synths, odd syncopation, and that Kate Bush high-voice thing that's everywhere right now. And, bonus, NO Bon Iver or Fleet Foxes! You'll thank me and that cute Swiss dude.

3.) This New Yorker short story “The Yellow” by Samantha Hunt. Warning: some magical realism, if you just can't deal with that. Otherwise, it's a great story.

Have a great Holiday Weekend everyone! XO…

Oh, good. Thanks for reminding me to read the rest of that NYTM thingy. I liked what I read but it was such a lazy day and I think we went for those boiled horse sandwiches in the middle of a sentence and then I forgot about it.

    Hey Lane,
You’re welcome. I thought specifically of you after I read the Disney article, knowing youse are making a trip there soon. You’ll like the essay for sure stoner dad. And you’ll like the music too. And while I’m at it, and since I never comment after reading the post, I wanted to tell you how nice your essay and those photos we’re. A lovely tribute to Ann. I’m sorry for your loss.

the mix is perfect. naturally. i would love to hear it cut with some fleetwood mac, and perhaps better some solo lindsey buckingham material. THEN it would BE DJ Trent!

I’d like to think it pains you a little to realize that Fleetwood Mac and Lyndsey Buckingham underpin your tastes so thrououghly, the whole “THIS came from THAT?” But I think Trent is right. The Mac and … Apples in Stereo?, Of Montreal? go perfectly together. … and ABBA! Trent’s two favorite bands. Probably your two great embarrassments.

And the NYT article! Great. So many insights… the mind reels.

    thanks, again.

    and finally, cocaine.

coke is the connecting point between you and lindsey buckingham and apples in stereo-ish kind of music… which got me to thinking.

do you indulge in freud’s little pass time now and again good doctor?… “rock on!”

“the rest of the day was spent on pendulum bouts of ecstatic, hyper-attentive parenting followed by separation from family to indulge addiction and vice.” Oh boy does that sound familiar.
