Ruben,
I too am sorry for your loss. You've written such a touching story about your father, which certainly would have made him proud. I hope that my kids will look back at our time together in such a fond way. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I am so sorry Ruben. I admire you for being able to write this post in this midst of your grief. It is a grand tribute. I can only imagine how proud your father would be. I have passed the day in sorrow for you and your family.

How beautiful for you to share and give outward in your time of loss, inviting us all to appreciate the times we have spent with people we love. I watched epics with my dad--Lawrence of Arabia, 10 Commandments, Little Big Man--and he would always pull out the lessons, the quotes, the "when you are my age . . ." He called me today and left a message. I have not called him back. I am going to as soon as I am done here. Thank you.

Ruben, I think you're aware of the depth of sorrow I feel for your loss. My dad was always on the lookout for improvised tools with which to impress a life lesson upon me. He would often point out how different athletes would hustle to supplement their sometimes limited physical gifts; his favorites were Pete Rose and Lenny Dykstra (funny how both their careers ended in disgrace). My dad was kind of clunky that way, always a little out of step with reality; it was one of his better traits.

I was reading an article about Patrick Ewing’s knee problems to my father when his heart stopped beating. I was trying to express to him the importance of going on even though his body was telling him otherwise – funny how we imitate our parents.

I see how you are with your kids and I have no question that your dad was nothing less than an extraordinary man. Thanks for sharing this post.
