While on my recent trip to Central Europe, I snapped about two thousand photos. Over the next several weeks I’ll do my best to share some of my favorites without boring you all to tears. This was the first time I’ve traveled since becoming interested in taking pictures, and I found myself growing increasingly drawn to a limited number of subjects — the first one: anything that had to do with transportation.
This could mean something as mundane as my view out the window:
Escalator shots:
Attempts to capture my image among the grime:
Observations regarding grand and modern train stations:
Lots and lots of train and bus interiors:
Simple objects that seemed staggeringly beautiful to me:
Schedule signs:
Fellow travelers:
Finally, there were the combination shots, which captured several of the other elements:

These are lovely images. Some of them surely should be used as my masthead photos!
I love these Scotty – I can’t wait to see more! I especially like the last one – I love her haircut and the graffiti in the background. It reminds me of Europe in the 80′s. (I know, a simplistic observation, but still).
Thank you so much to both of you.
TGW: I’m flattered, and I’d be thrilled but I don’t control such matters.
J-Man: You’ve always been so kind regarding my pictures. Yes, I like this shot as well, but the next one I took on that train led to an incredibly uncomfortable situation when someone (rightfully, I think) scolded me for taking his photo without his permission.
I love the light in these, particularly 4, 5, and 6. Damn, you’ve got a good eye!
Oh – and the modern train station: very Logan’s Run.
My favorite is the train interior. I want to take it out behind the middle school and get it pregnant.
Thanks Tim. I started really looking for the true light when I’ve been taking photos lately, but that’s really a luxury of shooting digital; often times, I can do a lot of trial and error on the same subject until my onscreen image matches what I see in the for-reals.
TGW: Wow!
These are really fantastic. Thanks, Scotty.
Excellent transient photos. How many miles did you cover?
Love them all. But I especially love the iconic mash-up. The last image is such a wonderful collage of image, light and environment.
